RIDOT closing section of Route 1 North in South Kingstown tomorrow for pavement repair

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) is closing a short segment of Route 1 North in South Kingstown tomorrow, Wednesday, March 2, 2011. The closure is expected to last from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to allow for repair of damaged pavement.

All traffic will be required to exit onto Route 1A (Post Road), but will use an adjacent on-ramp to return to the highway. RIDOT expects the disruption to traffic to be minimal, however, motorists may wish to plan additional time to travel through this area.

The severe winter conditions Rhode Island experienced this season caused considerable damage to the road in this area. RIDOT is planning a larger resurfacing project beginning this summer, but chose to repair this segment as quickly as possible.

Motorists with questions can contact RIDOT’s Customer Service office at 401-222-2450 weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Additional information will be available on RIDOT’s website (www.dot.ri.gov) and its social media sites on Twitter, Facebook, MySpace and Blogger.
