Governor Lincoln D. Chafee Announces the Appointment of Paula M. McNamara to Rhode Island State Investment Commission

Providence, RI – Governor Lincoln D. Chafee today announced his choice of Paula M. McNamara to serve as a member of the Rhode Island State Investment Commission (SIC) – a ten member body, chaired by General Treasurer Gina Raimondo, which is charged with investing state funds.

“Paula McNamara brings a broad range of investment experiences to the State Investment Commission,” Governor Chafee said. “Her financial knowledge has been formed across the spectrum of private, online development, and education sectors. Paula will be a valuable addition to this important commission.”

“I am hopeful the Senate will take swift action to approve this request from Governor Chafee,” said Treasurer Raimondo, chair of the SIC. “Paula’s background and experience will be a valuable asset to the Commission in its efforts to get the best investment returns on behalf of the state.”

McNamara has held several high-ranking positions at Fidelity Investments since 1987, most recently serving as Senior Director of Client Services Development in Smithfield, Rhode Island. She has also served as President of the Board of Trustees at the Lincoln School in Providence, Rhode Island, and currently serves as the President and Administrative Officer for the Murray Family Charitable Foundation.

McNamara, a resident of East Providence, is a 1984 graduate of Brown University where she has maintained strong connections – serving on the President’s Leadership Council and as Vice-President of the University’s Sports Foundation.

The Governor appoints three members of the general public to serve on the SIC. Paula McNamara is the first appointment Governor Chafee has made to this commission. This appointment will now go before the Senate for advice and consent.
