DLT Business Workforce Center to host free employer workshops

The RI Department of Labor and Training Business Workforce Center will host free employer workshops on available job-matching services at its Cranston location, 1511 Pontiac Avenue, on Thursdays, June 9 and 16 at 1:30 p.m. and Thursday, June 23 at 9:30 a.m. Advance registration is required by calling 1-888-616-JOBS.

The workshops will include an introduction to the state’s free online job-matching system, EmployRI.org, and will demonstrate how business can use employri.org to create and post job listings that incorporate industry-recognized descriptions to recruit properly qualified candidates. Representatives will discuss how the DLT Business Workforce Center can assist businesses in creating and implementing customized recruitment plans, including small-scale events through the local netWORKri one-stop center and job fairs for larger businesses or business clusters.

During the workshops, representatives will also demonstrate the free online assessment tool, Prove It!, that can evaluate candidate’s working knowledge in numerous business-related competencies, including but not limited to specific financial, customer service, management and computer software skills. Lastly, representatives of the Business Workforce Center will acquaint interested employers with a variety of training options, including information on free Metrix short-term online training modules and matching grant opportunities for on-the-job and customized training of new hires.

Director of Labor and Training Charles J. Fogarty explains, “As the Rhode Island economy continues to recovery, it is critical that growing businesses are able not only to identify the skill requirements they need in their workforce but also to connect to job candidates whose knowledge, skills and abilities meet those requirements. That is why our representatives at the department’s Business Workforce Center work directly with employers to improve their recruitment efforts and, when necessary, identify appropriate training.”

The RI Department of Labor and Training Business Workforce Center offers free walk-in services for employers in the areas of job-matching, recruitment, training and transition assistance. The Business Workforce Center is one component of the department’s comprehensive workforce development services, which include netWORKri one-stop career centers, the EmployRI.org online career center, the YouthWORKS411 workforce system, Veterans’ services, and the State Workforce Investment Office.
