Interested Rhode Islanders Can Now Submit Pre-Order Information to Red Sox Foundation for New Red Sox Logo RI Plates

Cranston, RI – The Rhode Island Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) announced today that Rhode Islanders interested in signing up for new Red Sox logo license plates can now submit pre-order information to the Red Sox Foundation. Those who submit their name, telephone number, and e-mail address to redsoxfoundation@redsox.com with the subject line “RI RED SOX LICENSE PLATE” will be added to the list that will be contacted as soon as the official license plate order form is made available.

900 orders must be placed through the Red Sox Foundation before the state can begin manufacturing the special charity plates, so Rhode Islanders are encouraged to sign up for order information notification.

Each Red Sox logoed license plate costs a one-time fee of $41.50 in addition to the usual registration fee. The state will retain $21.50 to cover the cost of producing the charitable fundraising plate, and the remaining $20 will go to the Red Sox Foundation, which in turn will make grants to a variety of Rhode Island-based charitable organizations on a rotating basis each year.

Governor Chafee signed legislation authorizing the DMV to issue license plates bearing the official Boston Red Sox logo insignia on May 27. The legislation was sponsored by Representative Brian Patrick Kennedy in the House and Senator Maryellen Goodwin in the Senate.
