RIDOT to Close Nannaquaket Bridge in Tiverton for One Month

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) announced today that it will close the Nannaquaket Bridge in Tiverton for approximately one month for rehabilitation work starting Tuesday, August 9, 2011.

Part of a $1.5 million project that also includes improvements to Peckham Road and Long Highway in Little Compton, the project involves deck and sidewalk repairs on the bridge. Because crews will be working on large sections of the bridge deck, a full closure is necessary to help speed up the repairs, and will result in a better product.

"We apologize for any inconveniences this closure may cause," RIDOT Director Michael P. Lewis said. "We will make every effort to reopen the bridge as quickly as possible."

Work on Peckham Road and Long Highway will begin this year following the bridge rehabilitation, with the overall project set to wrap up next spring.

RIDOT has established the following detour routes for this closure:

From Nannaquaket Road:

• Follow Nannaquaket Road south to Main Road

• Turn left onto Main Road

From Main Road:

• Follow Main Road south and turn right onto Nannaquaket Road

Maps and turn-by-turn directions also are available at RIDOT's website at www.dot.ri.gov/travelri/detourmaps.asp.

Motorists with questions can contact RIDOT's Customer Service office at 401-222-2450 weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Additional information will be available on RIDOT's website (www.dot.ri.gov) and its social media sites on Twitter, Facebook, MySpace and Blogger.
