Portion of Woonasquatucket River Bikeway Closed for Utility Work

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) announced today that a portion of the Fred Lippitt Woonasquatucket River Bikeway in Providence has been closed for a Narragansett Bay Commission sewer project. The work, which includes the installation of 2,300 feet of new sewer lines, is expected to be completed in early 2013.

A signed detour has been established for the project, which will take place on an approximately half-mile portion of the path that runs parallel to Manton Avenue. Riders traveling west will be directed up Sheridan Street and along Manton Avenue, where they will find an access road just west of Riverdale Street that will link them back up with the bikeway. A detour map is available at RIDOT's website at www.dot.ri.gov/bikeri/index.asp under "BikeRI Construction Notes."

The path will be reopened temporarily on Saturday, September 24, for the Woony River Ride, an annual fundraiser for the Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council. Following the event, the area will be closed for the duration of the project.
