Providence, RI - Governor Lincoln D. Chafee will travel to New York, NY tomorrow, Thursday, November 3, 2011 to meet with New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomerg.
"I am pleased to meet once again with my fellow independent, Mayor Bloomberg," Governor Chafee said. "As a former Mayor, I understand the municipal perspective and the connection between the fiscal health of our municipalities and a financially sound state government. I have a great deal of respect for Mayor Bloomberg and the work he does for the people of New York City. The Mayor is a renowned business and governmental leader, and I look forward to talking with him about his ideas and policies to spur economic growth and job creation."
Governor Chafee and Mayor Bloomberg are also expected to discuss how New York has taken advantage of its world-class educational institutions and hospitals and to see if any lessons can be applied to Providence's Knowledge District. They will also share ideas regarding increased government efficiency in these lean economic times – a topic to which the Governor and Mayor share a commitment.
