DMV Wakefield Branch to Close on Fridays

Change of Service Effective Friday, June 15th

Governor Chafee today announced that the Rhode Island Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) will return to a four-day schedule in its Wakefield branch starting on Monday, June 11, 2012. The DMV Wakefield office, located inside the Stedman Government Center, will now be open Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and will be closed on Fridays. The new schedule allows DMV to better staff and maintain services at its branches throughout the state including Middletown and the new location in Westerly Town Hall.

South County customers may continue to transact business at the DMV's other locations – which will continue to operate with existing hours - or they may visit the DMV website at www.dmv.ri.gov.

The DMV Wakefield branch operated two days a week when it first opened and hours were extended to four days in July 2010 to accommodate the closing of the Rhode Island Mall branch. DMV Wakefield expanded to five days per week when its Middletown branch was temporarily closed in February 2011.

The DMV completely renovated the Wakefield facility in 2010 - expanding waiting area by 2,000 square feet and increasing seating capacity to 155 seats. New windows and air conditioning units were also installed to enhance customer comfort. Additional improvements were made last fall when the Stedman Government Center was renovated.

DMV recently opened a branch in Westerly Town Hall and also currently serves customers at locations in Middletown, Warren, Woonsocket and Cranston. Please visit the website at www.dmv.ri.gov for hours of operation and other information.
