Governor Lincoln D. Chafee Announces Advertising Effort to Highlight Job Openings at the Quonset Business Park

Quonset, R.I. – Governor Lincoln D. Chafee announced today that the Quonset Development Corporation (QDC) is launching a new radio ad to promote QuonsetJobs.com The on-line initiative helps match Rhode Island job seekers with available positions at the Quonset Business Park and the Port of Davisville. The new advertising campaign is designed to get the word out about job opportunities at the 168 businesses located at Quonset, and the QuonsetJobs.com website, which has been promoting potential openings at the Park since 2010. The Business Park sponsored a similar advertising effort over the past two years. More than 8,800 workers are already employed at companies within the Quonset Business Park.

"Quonset Business Park is one of the state's greatest resources. It positions us to expand commerce, make our local companies stronger, and create new jobs," said Governor Chafee. "This new campaign will not only let Rhode Islanders know about the many opportunities at Quonset, but will also be an entryway for them to join in the steady success we're seeing at the Park and Port of Davisville."

With the addition of new companies and growth of existing industries, there is a wide variety of available jobs. The openings range from medical researchers, engineers, mechanics, sea captains, to office professionals. Buoyed by private investments in recent years totaling $142 million dollars, the companies at the Business Park added over 2,700 new jobs since 2005. This number is expected to grow with the $22.3 million federal stimulus TIGER grant work that began in 2010 and is now nearing completion.

The success of Quonset and the resulting growth of jobs reflect the high priority Governor Chafee has placed on expansion at Quonset, and his administration's success in achieving continued progress there.

The quonsetjobs.com site includes listings of companies offering jobs, along with contact phone numbers or links to help in the job hunt and application process. Content for the website is changed on a weekly basis, as the jobs are filled and more Quonset tenants participate and list new openings. The page also includes links to the state Department of Labor and Training, North Kingstown Chamber of Commerce, and volunteer opportunities in the North Kingstown school department. Funds for the radio ads were provided by tenant companies of the Business Park.

"We take great pride in the 168 companies and 8,800 people working at Quonset Business Park, and we want more Rhode Islanders to know about the many new openings here," said Steven J. King, P.E., QDC Managing Director. "We are dedicated to helping our businesses get the most qualified candidates hired, and we believe Rhode Island has the best workers in nation to choose from."
