RIDOT to Recognize Law Enforcement for Outstanding Efforts in Highway Safety

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) will be presenting 2012 Highway Safety Champion Awards to recognize law enforcement officers and agencies for their outstanding performance in administering Speed, Occupant Protection and Alcohol Impaired enforcement during the Department's annual highway safety campaigns.

The awards will be presented during the Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) "TeamSpirit" Conference on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at 2:00 pm at Bryant University, Janikies Auditorium, Smithfield.

"We are extremely proud of our partners in law enforcement for their efforts to improve highway safety," said RIDOT Director Michael P. Lewis. "Enforcement is a key tool and a proven countermeasure in helping to save lives by reducing fatalities and serious injuries on our roadways."

The following law enforcement officers and agencies will be recognized:

Officers: Corporal William P. Litterio, Richmond Police Department

Sergeant John P. Andrews, East Providence Police Department

Officer Jedidiah D. Pineau, Warwick Police Department

Officer Jason J. Farias, Warwick Police Department

Trooper Genaro Ramirez, Rhode Island State Police

Trooper Sean A. McCarthy, Rhode Island State Police

Trooper John J. Gadrow, Rhode Island State Police

Agencies: Pawtucket Police Department and the Rhode Island State Police

"TeamSpirit" is a successful 22-year-old program that offers Rhode Island students in grades 9-12 the opportunity to participate in a leadership training seminar. This is followed by a school year of implementing action plans developed at the seminar.
