Rhode Island State Police Arrest A Subject for DUI After Travelling the Wrong Way Onto Route 95

Colonel Steven G. O'Donnell, Superintendent of the Rhode Island State Police and Commissioner of the Department of Public Safety, announces that on October 4, 2012 at 2:29 AM., troopers assigned to the Wickford Barracks responded to the scene of a motor vehicle crash on the ramp from the Airport Connector onto Route 95 south in Warwick.

The investigation revealed that the operator of vehicle #1, Ashley Choiniere, age 22, of 12 Set Sun Drive, Hope, Rhode Island was traveling west in the eastbound lane on the Airport Connector onto Route 95 south. As a result, Ms. Choiniere collided head on with a vehicle exiting Route 95 onto the Airport Connector.

Troopers observed Ms. Choiniere to have a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from her breath. Troopers also observed that her eyes were bloodshot and watery, and her speech was slurred.

Both operators, along with a passenger in the victim's vehicle, were transported to Rhode Island Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Ms. Choiniere refused to submit to a blood test and was given a summons to appear in Third District Court for an arraignment on a charge of Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol-Drugs, BAC Unknown / First Offense and will also be charged at the Rhode Island Traffic Tribunal with Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test.
