Rhode Island State Police Arrests Three Subjects for Shoplifting in Smithfield

Colonel Steven G. O'Donnell, Superintendent of the Rhode Island State Police and Commissioner of the Department of Public Safety, announces that members of the Scituate Barracks arrested three subjects for shoplifting at the Kohl's Department Store in the Town of Smithfield.

At 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 5, 2012, Smithfield Police broadcast a report of three subjects, who stole merchandise from the Kohl's Department Store in the Town of Smithfield. Scituate Barracks members observed the suspect vehicle, described as a grey Honda Accord with a Massachusetts registration, traveling on Route 295 north in the area of Route 7, in the Town of Smithfield. Troopers followed the suspect vehicle onto Route 99, where the vehicle was stopped, the stolen merchandise recovered, and the three occupants taken into custody without incident.

Once at State Police Headquarters, the three suspects were positively identified as:

1. Stephen Benson, age 28, of 69 East Main Street, Norton, Massachusetts: (operator of vehicle) 2. Laurabeth Degirolamo, age 31, of 152 Broadway, Taunton, Massachusetts: (front seat passenger) 3. Jeffrey Hesketh, age 37, of 11 Eastern Avenue, Hyde Park, Massachusetts: (rear seat passenger)

The three suspects were arraigned at State Police Headquarters and charged with Larceny Under $500.00. The three suspects were remanded to the Adult Correctional Institution and will be formally arraigned in Sixth Division District Court this morning.
