KIDS, COPS, AND CHRISTMAS - MEMBERS OF THE MEDIA ARE INVITED

Contact: Colonel Steven G. O'Donnell, Superintendent, Rhode Island State Police, Commissioner, Rhode Island Department of Public Safety, RISP Headquarters, (401) 444-1120

The Rhode Island State Police, the Rhode Island Police Chiefs' Association, and the Rhode Island law enforcement and business community will help brighten the upcoming holiday season for many children, who are clients of Crossroads Rhode Island, A Children's Friend, the Hispanic Ministerial Alliance, Project Night Vision, the Socio-Economic Development Center for Southeast Asians, and Big Brothers of Rhode Island.

Law enforcement officers throughout Rhode Island have been invited to attend this holiday event and will bring unwrapped gifts to fulfill a wish for children, who may otherwise be forgotten this holiday season. The goal of this event is to provide a positive Christmas experience and to show children that police officers are their friends and are in the community to help them. This is the fifth year Rhode Island law enforcement has participated in this program. This year several Rhode Island businesses will also be attending with their donations of toys and gift cards.

The Rhode Island State Police and Rhode Island Police Chiefs' Association will kick off the Kids, Cops & Christmas Program:

Wednesday, December 12, 2012 3:00 p.m. State Room of the State House

Attending the press conference will be Governor Lincoln D. Chafee, Lieutenant Governor Elizabeth Roberts, Colonel Steven G. O'Donnell, Superintendent of the Rhode Island State Police, Chief Anthony Pesare, President of the Rhode Island Police Chiefs' Association, and representatives of Crossroads, A Children's Friend, the Hispanic Ministerial Alliance, Project Night Vision, the Socio-Economic Development Center for Southeast Asians, and Big Brothers, as well as our corporate sponsors from Benny's, Inc., CVS Caremark, Ocean State Job Lot, Target, and Walgreens. Police chiefs and police officers from throughout the state will also be in attendance.

Members of the media are cordially invited to attend this holiday event at the State House as well as join us at Crossroads Rhode Island at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 13th when the agencies will be picking up their toys for distribution.
