PROVIDENCE, R.I. – General Treasurer Gina M. Raimondo today announced two new staff members in the areas of policy and communications. Andrew Roos will join the office as chief of staff and Ashley Gingerella O'Shea as associate director of communications.
"I am committed to having the strongest, most diverse team possible to help me tackle the challenges facing Rhode Island," Raimondo said. "Their dedication and mixture of private and public sector experience will help me to continue to build on our record of results in Treasury and to find better ways to serve Rhode Islanders."
In addition to reforming the state-administered pension system, since coming into office, Raimondo has added several new initiatives to Treasury including Empower RI to promote financial empowerment efforts, the Ocean State Investment Pool and the Rhode Island Investor Relations Portal. Treasury is committed to building on these achievements by improving operations while expanding outreach efforts.
Roos is joining Treasury from Google in Washington, DC, where he worked in the Elections and Issue Advocacy division. He has a strong background in technology, advocacy and public policy. Prior to Google his work included extensive political experience, including first electing National Governors Association Chair Jack Markell in Delaware. Roos is returning to Rhode Island where he attended graduate school at Brown University. He is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame. He will start March 4.
Joseph P. Pratt of Newport, RI, will continue to serve as the Deputy Treasurer/Chief of Administration. Prior to joining Treasury in January 2011, he was a public affairs professional with extensive experience in government relations and public policy, and was most recently the Senior Director for Public Affairs at Fidelity Investments in Rhode Island. He is a graduate of Providence College.
O'Shea, of Barrington, RI, is coming from Citizens Bank in Providence, where she was an assistant vice president, public relations manager. She has a strong background in media relations, public affairs and community outreach. O'Shea is a member of several community groups including the United Way of Rhode Island and Youth in Action. Originally from Westerly, she is a graduate of Roger Williams University and holds an MBA from the University of Rhode Island. O'Shea started February 19.
