Colonel Steven G. O'Donnell, Superintendent, of the Rhode Island State Police and Commissioner of Public Safety, announces that $110,670 in forfeiture funds will be distributed to state and local police departments and the Rhode Island National Guard at a press conference:

The forfeiture is a result of a three-year investigation conducted by the Rhode Island State Police High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force (HIDTA), which is comprised of state and local police, the Rhode Island National Guard, Drug Enforcement Administration, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, and the Department of Homeland Security/ Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The investigations resulted in the arrest of 189 defendants and the seizure of 25 firearms and the following narcotics: 11.20 kilograms of heroin, 52.8 kilograms of cocaine, 2.5 kilograms of crack cocaine, 3,730 kilograms of marijuana, 1,221 dosage units of MDMA, 15,008 dosage units of controlled prescription drugs, and 222 dosage units of steroids.
The Police Chiefs from the participating agencies will be in attendance to accept checks for their share of the federal forfeiture.
