Lt. Governor Elizabeth Roberts to Commemmorate Memorial Day with Silent Wreath Laying

PROVIDENCE--Lt. Governor Elizabeth Roberts will be joined by Governor Lincoln Chafee and Major General Kevin McBride, Adjutant General of the Rhode Island National Guard, as well as state and local officials, on Friday, May 24, 2013, at 10:00 am on the southwest lawn of the State House to commemorate Memorial Day. Officials will honor Rhode Island's Veterans of War with a silent wreath laying at the Garden of Heroes, officially dedicated in October 2005 to "Rhode Island service members who made the ultimate sacrifice during operations in support of the global war on terrorism since September 11, 2001." The ceremony is open to the public.

The garden was officially named "The Garden of Heroes" in 2004 through legislation introduced at the request of then Lieutenant Governor Charles J. Fogarty. Lt. Governor Elizabeth Roberts has pledged her commitment to its continued care and support as Garden Custodian.
