Colonel Steven G. O'Donnell, Superintendent, of the Rhode Island State Police and Commissioner of Public Safety, announces that on August 3, 2013, at approximately 1:45 PM, members of the Lincoln Woods Barracks and Violent Fugitive Task Force arrested Bryan D. Castillo, age 22, formerly of 68 Lakeside Avenue, Cranston, Rhode Island for Escape from a Correctional Facility.
On Friday, August 2, 2013, at approximately 10:30 am, Bryan Castillo, an inmate in the custody of the Adult Correctional Institution (ACI) was working with other inmates on a work detail on Route 95 near Exit 20 in the City of Providence when he fled from the area. Local law enforcement and various media outlets were notified of Castillo's escape. The Rhode Island State Police Violent Fugitive Task Force comprised of State Police Detectives, United States Marshals and a Providence Police Officer immediately joined the search checking several addresses previously associated with Inmate Castillo.
This morning, a tip was received that Castillo was located at 21 Princeton Avenue, Providence, Rhode Island. Uniformed members from the State Police Lincoln Barracks and Violent Fugitive Task Force responded to the address and apprehended Castillo who was involved in a struggle with one of the residents. Castillo was processed at the Lincoln Woods Barracks and later returned to the ACI. Castillo will be formally arraigned in the Sixth District Court in Providence on Monday, August 5, 2013 on the charge of Escape from a Correctional Facility.
Inmate Castillo is serving a one (1) year sentence for Breaking and Entering into a Dwelling. He was scheduled to be released on February 26, 2014.
