Colonel Steven G. O'Donnell, Superintendent, of the Rhode Island State Police and Commissioner of Public Safety, announces that a press conference will be held:

Thursday, September 19, 2013 11:30 a.m. Rhode Island State Police Headquarters 311 Danielson Pike North Scituate, RI 02857

The "Alcohol Compliance Task Force" is comprised of members of the Rhode Island State Police, local law enforcement, college and university police and public safety departments, the Rhode Island Department of Business Regulation, and the Rhode Island State Fire Marshal.

The Task Force has been deployed to night clubs to ensure that the clubs are in compliance with state alcohol laws, the State Fire Code, and state and local licensing. The teams are also checking on over-serving, under-age drinking, and inspecting for licensing violations.

"Bar checks" have always been a part of regular patrols. However, in response to increased problems and violence related to some nightclubs, including the surrounding area, as well as large house and neighborhood parties, the Task Force was established to address these concerns as well as quality of life issues in the neighborhoods.

The Alcohol Compliance Task Force has been deployed five times in the past several weeks, and the results of these patrols and plans for future patrols will be announced at the press conference.
