DEM Advises Deer Hunters That All State Wildlife Management Areas Will Remain Open for Deer Hunting During the December 26-January 2 Shotgun and Muzzleloader Seasons

PROVIDENCE - The Department of Environmental Management is advising hunters that all state wildlife management areas, in addition to private lands, will remain open to muzzleloader and shotgun deer hunting during the December 26 to January 2 hunting season. During this designated hunting period, only antlerless deer may be taken on both state and private lands in Zones 1 and 2.

A typographical error on page 22 of the 2013-2014 Rhode Island Hunting and Trapping Abstract incorrectly states that antlerless deer may be taken during the December 26 to January 2 period in Zones 1 and 2 on private land only. However, the correct information is included in DEM's Hunting Regulations for the 2013-2014 Season. The Division of Fish and Wildlife apologizes for any inconvenience this may have caused.

The 2013-2014 hunting regulations are available on DEM's website at www.dem.ri.gov/pubs/regs/regs/fishwild/hunt1314.pdf.

For questions, contact the division of Fish and Wildlife at 401-789-0281.
