Event to be held outside the Senate Chamber (second floor) at the State House
Providence, RI – Governor Lincoln D. Chafee, Rhode Island Secretary of State A. Ralph Mollis, Rhode Island Senate President M. Teresa Paiva Weed, and Rhode Island House Speaker Gordon D. Fox have announced that the unveiling of the latest addition to the State House's collection of art and sculpture will occur today on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at 4:30 p.m. outside the Senate Chamber on the second floor at the State House.
The new piece is a sculpture of Rhode Island's historical figure, Governor Thomas Dorr, an abolitionist and reformer who spoke out for the right to vote, and played a major role in the development of our state's constitution. He is best known for leading the Dorr Rebellion (1841–1842) and creating the People's Party.
State Laureate Patrick T. Conley, Mrs. Gail Cahalan-Conley and the nonprofit group the Heritage Harbor Corporation donated the sculpture to the State House collection.
