Drug Enforcement Administration, AG Kilmartin and Local Law Enforcement Agencies to Hold Press Conference to Announce Prescription Drug Take Back Day

The Drug Enforcement Administration and Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin will host a press conference with state and law enforcement agencies to announce the upcoming Prescription Drug Take Back Day in Rhode Island and to remind the public of the importance to rid homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs.

The press conference is scheduled for Thursday, April 24, 2014 at the Warwick Police Department, 99 Veterans Memorial Drive, Warwick.

Joining DEA officials at the press conference will be Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin, Colonel Stephen M. McCartney of the Warwick Police Department, Richmond Police Chief and President of the Rhode Island Police Chiefs Association Elwood Johnson, First Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen G. Dambruch, Lt. Colonel Michael Winquist of the Rhode Island State Police, and members of Substance Abuse Task Forces across Rhode Island.

The Prescription Drug Take Back Day is scheduled for this Saturday, April 26, 2014, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Since the program began in 2010, Americans have turned in 3.4 million pounds - more than 1,700 tons of pills.

In addition to the more than 35 police departments participating in the Take Back Day, 16 police departments, including Warwick Police Department, accept discarded prescription medication year-round.
