AG Kilmartin Urges eBay Users to Monitor Accounts for Suspicious Activity After Data Breach

After receiving notification of a cyberattack targeting eBay, Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin is warning Rhode Islanders to review their accounts for suspicious activity.

"Although information about this data breach is still developing, I am urging eBay users to immediately change their passwords and keep a close eye on their accounts for any fraudulent activity," said Attorney General Kilmartin. "Initial reports indicate that no financial or credit card information was compromised in this latest data breach, but it is still important to be vigilant in monitoring all account information and activity."

According to eBay, the cyberattack compromised a database containing encrypted passwords and other non-financial data. The database included eBay customers' names, encrypted passwords, email addresses, physical addresses, phone numbers and dates of birth.

Additionally, eBay has reported that it has seen no evidence of unauthorized access to PayPal, its online payment service.
