National Roadcheck 2014

Colonel Steven G. O'Donnell, Superintendent, of the Rhode Island State Police and Commissioner of The Department of Public Safety, announces that the Rhode Island State Police Commercial Enforcement Unit, along with Safety Inspectors from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (Rhode Island Office) and police officers from the Towns of Burrillville, Hopkinton, Johnston, North Kingstown, and the City of West Warwick participated in Roadcheck 2014, which promoted seventy-two (72) hours of commercial motor-vehicle inspections throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico from June 3, 2014 through June 5, 2014. This year's theme was "Enhancing Truck and Bus Safety and Security Throughout North America."

In Rhode Island, inspections were conducted at the Route 146 South Weigh Station in North Smithfield and the Route 95 North Weigh Station in Richmond from 7 AM to 8 PM which produced the following results:

386 commercial motor vehicle were inspected;
67 vehicles placed out of service for major safety defects;
18 drivers placed out of service;
820 vehicle violations;
147 driver violations; and
1 arrest

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) sponsors the annual Roadcheck, with participation by state law enforcement agencies, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators, Transport Canada, Pipeline and Hazardous Material Safety Administration, and the Secretariat of Communications and Transportation (Mexico).
