Secretary of State Nellie M. Gorbea Reminds Residents of March 27 Voter Registration Deadline

PROVIDENCE, RI- Secretary of State Nellie M. Gorbea is reminding Rhode Islanders that they have until Sunday, March 27, to register to vote in the April 26 Presidential Preference Primary.

Although the deadline falls on a Sunday, every city and town has made arrangements for residents to register or change their address at the last minute. Below is a list of locations and times where residents can register to vote. Voters who have moved or changed their names since they last voted should update their information by March 27 in order to avoid difficulties on primary day.

"I am committed to engaging and empowering all Rhode Islanders to help move our great state forward," Gorbea said. "Civic participation is critical to our success as a state and I am working to ensure that eligible voters are registered and come to the polls on election day."

Voters can easily check their voter registration status by using the Department of State's Voter Information Center. Rhode Islanders can also download a voter registration form . In order to vote on April 26, you must be registered by the deadline - this means that the original, signed form must be received by the applicant's local board of canvassers by March 27.

Anyone with questions regarding their voting status or the Presidential Preference Primary can contact the Department of State's Election Division at 401-222-2340 or by email at
