RIDOT Scheduled to Activate Temporary Traffic Signal on July 22 at Metro Center Boulevard Bridge in Warwick

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) is scheduled to activate a temporary traffic signal at the Metro Center Boulevard Bridge that carries Metro Center Boulevard over the Airport Connector in Warwick on Friday, July 22.

Since May 16, only northbound traffic was permitted to use the bridge that is currently under construction, while southbound traffic had to use a detour. With this temporary signal, the detour will be removed, and motorists will experience one lane of alternating traffic. Delays may be possible with this new traffic pattern that should last for the duration of the repair project, currently slated for completion in Winter 2017.

RIDOT's work at the Metro Center Boulevard Bridge, anticipated to cost $750,000, includes repairs to the deck, joint replacement, steel beam repairs, and repainting the bridge. These improvements are part of a larger $8 million bridge preservation project, with a budget contingency of $400,000, encompassing repairs to the Airport Connector, seven bridges, and the resurfacing of a portion of Route 2 in Warwick.

Visit www.dot.ri.gov or follow RIDOTNews on Facebook or Twitter for timely information on construction projects and traffic conditions across the state. All work is weather-dependent and subject to change.
