Public Invited to "Drive Electric " This Weekend at Misquamicut FallFest

WESTERLY, R.I. - The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM), the Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources (OER), the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (DOT), the Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH), Ocean State Clean Cities at the University of Rhode Island, and its partners invite the public to test drive electric vehicles (EV) this weekend during Misquamicut Business Association Fallfest at Misquamicut State Beach. The event, which features the latest EVs on the market, is part of the National Drive Electric Week.

WHAT: Rhode Island's 4th Annual National Drive Electric Week EV Test Drive

WHEN: Saturday, September 16, 2017 - 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

WHERE: Misquamicut State Beach, 257 Atlantic Avenue, Westerly, RI

Drive Electric events give the public an opportunity to experience firsthand the benefits of driving electric and the wide array of vehicles currently available. On Saturday, several new generation EVs will be on display, including Chevrolet, BMW, and Toyota models. Test drives are on a first-come, first-served basis with a valid driver's license.

This event is one of more than 200 public events across the country (and around the world) highlighting the clean-air benefits and cost-savings of electric vehicles. Plug In America, the Sierra Club and the Electric Auto Association are national organizers. The Nissan LEAF® is the exclusive national automotive sponsor. Local organizations at this event will include People's Power and Light, RISE Engineering, and ChargePoint, who will be on hand to discuss electric vehicles, charging, and energy efficiency programs. Additionally, this event will be part of the US Department of Energy's "Plug In Electric Vehicle Adoption In New England" award in partnership with Plug In America.

The Seventh Annual Misquamicut Fallfest weekend runs from Friday, September 15 to Sunday, September 17 and features a variety of activities for the whole family including live entertainment, antique car show, rides, and food trucks. The Misquamicut Business Association will be offering free admission vouchers to Fallfest for drivers who bring their EVs to the event, as well as, anyone who participates in a test drive.
