Raimondo Directs Rhode Island Flags to Fly at Half-Staff in Honor of Former Congressman John Dingell Jr.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - In accordance with a Presidential Proclamation [r20.rs6.net], Governor Gina M. Raimondo has ordered that the U.S. and Rhode Island flags at all state facilities be flown at half-staff in honor of former U.S. Representative John Dingell Jr., the longest-serving member of Congress. Flags will remain at half staff until sunset on February 9, 2019.

"Throughout his record-breaking career in Congress, John Dingell fought to make life better for all Americans. He presided over the vote to establish Medicare, fought for the Civil Rights Act, and was instrumental in passing the Affordable Care Act. His legacy will inspire future leaders for generations to come. Andy and I are keeping his family, especially his wife Debbie, in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time."

Raimondo also asks Rhode Islanders to lower their flags to half-staff as a mark of respect.
