Roberts honors high school seniors who have made positive contributions to their schools and communities
PROVIDENCELt. Gov. Elizabeth Roberts yesterday recognized Rhode Island's exemplary high school seniors at the 2007 ceremony of the Lieutenant Governor's Leadership Awards, granting awards to sixty-two students from across Rhode Island. Lt. Gov. Roberts was also joined by keynote speaker Reza Clifton, a local activist who currently serves as the vice president of the Rhode Island Young Professionals and a Community Development Specialist at the Urban League of Rhode Island. Clifton is also the editor of RezaRitesRI.com and a local freelance writer.
"The high school students with us here today represent the best and the brightest in Rhode Island, students who have dedicated themselves to their studies and their communities with passion and a desire to make our state better," Lt. Gov. Elizabeth Roberts. "These young people deserve our highest praise and I am proud to present them with Leadership Awards. I look forward to learning about all of their great accomplishments for years to come."
Initiated in 1993 to recognize high school seniors who have made positive differences in their schools and their communities, the Lieutenant Governor's Leadership Awards program enables each high school in the state to nominate one student each year based on their dedication to scholarship, their commitment to community service, and their embodiment of leadership qualities.
