RIDOC to Hold Emergency Drill on June 20th, 2007

Cranston, RI – June 19, 2007 -- On Wednesday, June 20, 2007, the Rhode Island Department of Corrections (RIDOC) will conduct an emergency drill, to include RIDOC staff, members of the Rhode Island State Police, Cranston Police, and Cranston Fire and Rescue. THIS IS ONLY A DRILL to test our emergency preparedness and response.

The simulated incident will be limited to our Maximum Security facility on Pontiac Avenue. The Rhode Island Emergency Management Mobile Command Vehicle will be visible in the Maximum Security parking lot. In addition, exercise participants may be posted on the roads throughout the Pastore Complex for traffic control.

RIDOC’s Correctional Emergency Response Team (CERT) will be activated. Weapons will be issued for perimeter security only. NO chemical munitions or ammunition will be issued to RIDOC staff.

The exercise will begin around mid-morning on the 20th and is scheduled to last for approximately three (3) hours.
