Travel Advisory: Overnight Ramp Closures Possible from Breakneck Hill Road to Route 146 in Lincoln this Summer

As part of an ongoing $35.7 million bridge project, the Rhode Island Department of Transportation will have intermittent, temporary closures of the on-ramps to Route 146 North and South from Breakneck Hill Road (Route 123) in Lincoln. The closures will only occur during evening and overnight hours, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Sunday-Thursday nights starting Thursday night, June 22 and running through the end of August.

The intermittent ramp closures are necessary for the safety of drivers and workers during demolition activities on each end of the bridge. Specific details of closure nights will be posted on the Northern R.I. & Blackstone Valley section of RIDOT's website at www.ridot.net/TravelAdvisories.

When closures are needed, drivers will follow a signed detour route using Old Louisquisset Pike (Route 246) to the Route 146 on-ramps on Twin River Road.

RIDOT is completely replacing the Breakneck Hill Road Bridge and nearby Twin River Road Bridge over Route 146 in Lincoln. The project also includes rehabilitation of the Route 146 bridges over Charles Street and Mineral Spring Avenue in North Providence. All work will be done in fall 2024.

All construction projects are subject to changes in schedule and scope depending on needs, circumstances, findings, and weather.

This project is made possible by RhodeWorks and the Bipartisan Infrastructure and Improvement Act. RIDOT is committed to bringing Rhode Island's infrastructure into a state of good repair while respecting the environment and striving to improve it. Learn more at www.ridot.net/RhodeWorks.
