PROVIDENCE, RI – Secretary of State Gregg M. Amore and the RI Department of State Elections Division are today reporting that participation in the first ten days of early voting this year is 88% higher than the number of early voters during the same period in the 2022 midterm election.
As of 4:30 p.m. on Friday, October 23, in the first ten days of early voting, 45,969 voters had cast an early in-person ballot. In 2022, the most recent midterm election, 24,393 voters participated in the first ten days of early voting. In this year's primary, 12,281 voters voted during the first ten days of early voting.
"These high levels of participation in the beginning of the early voting period show us that Rhode Islanders like to have options for how and when to cast their ballot," said Secretary of State Gregg M. Amore. "As early voting becomes more well-known and more voters try it, many find it to be a fast, convenient way to cast their ballot. I hope to see these high participation levels continue, and encourage every eligible voter to make their voice heard, whether via mail ballot, early in-person, or on Election Day."
The RI Department of State reports early voting, mail ballot, and Election Day turnout on its Voter Turnout Tracker.
Voters who still have a mail ballot in their possession are reminded that mail ballots must be received by 8 p.m. on Election Day (Tuesday, November 3). Voters who plan to mail their ballot should do so no later than tomorrow, Tuesday, October 27, seven days before Election Day. Voters can also return their ballot via a secure elections drop box, open 24/7 until 8 p.m. on November 3, or at a polling place on Election Day to ensure it is received in time.
On vote.ri.gov, voters can: • view a sample ballot; • find their early voting location and hours; • find their Election Day polling place; • review the Voter Information Handbook; and • find a secure elections drop box.
