Video, audio, photo and newspaper archives now on-line, as well as a social networking area for citizens of Rhode Island to contact the treasurer and follow the latest news
PROVIDENCE 1/22/2009 - General Treasurer Frank T. Caprio announced today the debut of a multimedia and press room component to the Rhode Island General Treasurer's web site.
"The new portal offers the citizens of Rhode Island, as well as journalists who cover our office, a more up-to-date place to go to gather information on what the Office of the General Treasurer is working on and important issues we have commented on publicly," said Treasurer Caprio.
The new multimedia and press room includes an expanded data base of Treasurer Caprio's appearances on television, radio and in print publications. A daily blog is also included. Content on the site is updated daily.
"Making it user friendly was the top priority," said Caprio.
The web site also offers examples of photos of Treasurer Caprio which can be requested for use by the media in their coverage of the treasury office.
In addition to the video, audio, blog, photo and newspaper archival sections, the multimedia and press room also includes important social networking tools such as: Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and You Tube.
"Leveraging technology today is important and necessary," said Caprio. "Our office has always been out in front in this area and we continue to expand our technological reach to the citizens and media in the state. We want to be current with our message, and with the multimedia and press room, we feel we are doing that. Our goal is to provide information which is important, relevant and easily accessible," said Treasurer Caprio.
"The use of social networking and Web 2.0 technology to stay in touch and gather information in today's world is vital. Government should be no exception since we are here to serve our community and our state. We need to be accessible and these social networking tools help us to do that very effectively," said Caprio.
In the future, the multimedia and press room will also include daily podcasts as well as video and audio interviews with the treasurer focusing on important issues affecting the state of Rhode Island and its citizens.
Citizens of Rhode Island, as well as those in the media, can access the treasurer's new multimedia and press room by visiting the treasury web site at www.treasury.ri.gov and then clicking on the multimedia and press room link on the left menu bar.
