Statement from Lt. Gov. Elizabeth Roberts Regarding Passage of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Restoration Act

PROVIDENCE— Lt. Gov. Elizabeth H. Roberts issued the following statement today regarding the enactment of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Restoration Act, which restores a worker’s right to seek legal redress for pay discrimination.

“I applaud President Obama and the Congress for enacting the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Restoration Act. Ms. Ledbetter has waged a courageous struggle for workplace fairness and pay parity, standing up and speaking out for the basic principle of equal pay for equal work.”

“This important legislation ensures that women and men who discover that they are being discriminated against in pay will be able to have a court adjudicate their claim. There is still work to be done to close the gender pay gap but this is an important step toward equality in the workplace.”
