Lt. Gov. Roberts Addresses Arctic Village Association on Buy Local RI

West Warwick Small Business Owners Meet to Explore Ways to Revitalize Local Economy

PROVIDENCE— Lt. Gov. Elizabeth H. Roberts, Chair of the Small Business Advocacy Council (SBAC) addressed the Arctic Village Association in West Warwick to discuss Buy Local RI, the economic development initiative to support independent Rhode Island businesses and organizations.

“Small businesses in Rhode Island represent 90% of all businesses in the state, and we need to do everything we can to help and support them in order to rebuild our economy,” Roberts said. “The Buy Local RI” encourages Rhode Island consumers and business to think first about supporting locally owned, independent businesses. Working with local chambers of commerce and merchants associations, small businesses throughout the state can connect to consumers and link business to business.”

Buy Local RI launched last November with a public awareness campaign, encouraging Rhode Islanders to support our local businesses by shopping locally for the holidays. The initiative continues to promote shopping locally throughout the year, and has also created a working group which is in the process of developing a website dedicated to expanding the market for local businesses and products by connecting people to Rhode Island businesses.
