The Providence County Grand Jury handed up a secret indictment yesterday, June 16, naming Luis Beltran on three counts of 1st degree child molestation. It is alleged that Beltran committed one crime of 1st degree child molestation between the dates of July 31, 2007 and July 31, 2008. It is alleged that Beltran committed two crimes of 1st degree child molestation between the dates of May 1, 2008 and May 31, 2008. All of the alleged incidents involve a victim or victims 14 years of age or under and took place in Providence. Providence Police conducted the investigation.
After screening this case, the Attorney General’s Office presented it to the grand jury, resulting in the secret indictment. “Secret” refers to the fact that neither an arrest nor a District Court complaint generated the indictment.
The Providence County Superior Court issued a warrant for Beltran’s arrest yesterday. He is currently charged as a fugitive from justice in Rhode Island and is being held in Bayamon Jail 750, Bayamon, Puerto Rico on the Providence Police Department’s arrest warrant. Beltran’s Extradition Hearing is being held in Puerto Rico today.
