Ethics Commission Meeting June 16, 2009
At the 9th meeting of the Commission in 2009, the Commission issued the following advisory opinion:
A.O. 2009-24 to Michael P. Jolin, former Deputy Chief of Legal Services at the Rhode Island Department of Business Regulation, opining that he is not prohibited by the Code of Ethics from accepting a part-time instructor position with the Rhode Island Association of Realtors.
Discussion was had of William V. Irons v. The Rhode Island Ethics Commission, No. 2008-335-M.P. and 2009-01-M.P.
Discussion was had of the Commission's current Legal Counsel’s contract. Subsequently, a vote was taken in open session to renew Legal Counsel's contract for another year.
A public comment workshop regarding the participation of public officials who are union members in actions involving a different bargaining unit of the same umbrella labor union was held.
The Commission voted to withdraw General Commission Advisory No. 1: Nepotism. The Commission then voted to adopt General Commission Advisory 2009-1: Nepotism.
Discussion was had re: Third-party Posting of Financial Disclosure Statements on the Internet.
