A Few Things To Think About
There has been lots of focus on hurricane awareness as we enter the season, but preparedness as we all know is about preparing for the next disaster-no matter what the type. Ex. Director J.David Smith stated today that “our message has to be clear, focused and practical to have a greater impact on both the media and the population at large. We need to be more specific. For example:
1) Families need to develop a disaster plan for all types of disaster. Know how you will communicate with your family and where you will meet if cell phones don’t work. Who will pick up the kids. Where will you take them if going home is not possible. Can you put your hands on the items you need to take with you should you have to evacuate your homet in just minutes.
2) Take a CPR or first aid course. Now you are an asset to your family and community.
3) After you have looked after the safety of you and your family, do one more thing, check on a neighbor and make sure others are safe. If we all work together we can cope with just about anything.”
4) Finally, please check our website for in depth information about dealing with all kinds of disasters and have your children check out the section for kids.
