Executive Director J. David Smith expressed his concern this morning that “strong and gusty winds are capable of causing small and weak tree limbs to fall. Power outages may result. High profile vehicles may also experience difficult driving conditions. Wet leaves on the highway may also create a driving hazard. Motorists should exercise extreme caution.”

THE WIND ADVISORY IS NOW IN EFFECT FROM 1 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 8 PM EDT THIS EVENING.
A BRIEF PERIOD OF GUSTY SOUTHERLY WINDS IN HEAVIER SHOWERS OR PERHAPS A FEW EMBEDDED THUNDERSTORMS MAY AFFECT THE SOUTH COAST THIS MORNING. HOWEVER...STRONGER WEST WINDS ARE EXPECTED THIS AFTERNOON INTO EARLY THIS EVENING ACROSS ALL OF SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND.
WINDS WILL SHIFT TO THE WEST AND RAPIDLY INCREASE BETWEEN 1 PM AND 3 PM. WIND GUSTS BETWEEN 40 AND 45 MPH ARE POSSIBLE WHICH MAY DOWN BRANCHES AND LIMBS...ESPECIALLY WITH FULL FOLIAGE TREES.
THE WINDS WILL SLOWLY DIMINISH THIS EVENING...BUT WIND GUSTS OVER 40 MPH MAY PERSIST OVER THE OUTER CAPE AND ISLANDS
