Attorney General Patrick C. Lynch today issued the following statement concerning approval granted by Providence County Superior Court Associate Justice Michael Silverstein to Landmark Medical Center to enter into discussions with Caritas Christi Health Care regarding a prospective partnership:
“I am encouraged by the positive step taken today to preserve a significant Rhode Island institution that is especially important for those residing in the northern part of our state. It is imperative that we all work to maintain quality health care for the residents of Woonsocket and surrounding communities, and these talks hold promise not only to keep Landmark serving these residents but even to improve and protect, for the long run, the quality of care available. Since June of 2008, when the Court appointed the Special Master, we have worked closely with all of the parties involved to protect Landmark and all of the people it serves and employs. Today our office is ready, willing and able to begin the serious work that we must undertake to ensure that this proposed merger is in the best interests of all of the constituencies who would be affected.”
