Welcome to the Rhode Island State Police Training Academy Letter of Interest

The ability to follow specific directions is an important quality for someone interested in a Law Enforcement career. DO NOT submit resumes, letters of recommendation, or other information not requested. As mandated by RI General Law 42-28-10, "No person shall be eligible for appointment for the first time by the superintendent unless he or she shall be a citizen of the United States between the ages of eighteen (18) and thirty-five (35)."

MINIMUM STANDARD REQUIREMENTS TO APPLY

  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age and no older than thirty-five (35) years of age upon appointment to the Rhode Island State Police
  • Must possess a valid Operator's (Driver's) License
  • Must be a United States Citizen
  • Must possess a High School Diploma/Transcript or GED certificate

By submitting the following Letter of Interest, you will be be notified by mail or e-mail when the Rhode Island State Police begins accepting applications for employment for the position of Rhode Island State Trooper. At that time, you will be advised exactly what documentation is needed in order to submit a complete and accurate application package. It will be your responsibility to ensure that the application package is submitted in a complete and accurate manner and by the posted deadline.

After the initial submission of this Applicant Letter of Interest, it will be your responsibility to notify the Rhode Island State Police Training Academy in writing at the above address or via e-mail to trainingacademy@risp.dps.ri.gov of any changes concerning the information provided on this Applicant Letter of Interest.
