Chepachet’s Nelson Lefebvre Promoted to Deputy Warden

Corrections Director Ashbel T. Wall II has announced the promotion of Chepachet’s Nelson Lefebvre, a 26-year veteran of the Department with a stellar record and reputation, as the next Deputy Warden, effective Easter Sunday. He is assigned to the High Security Center.

Deputy Lefebvre was recently honored at the RIDOC’s annual employee awards ceremony as Supervisor of the Year for 2009. He was recognized as a highly motivated superior officer who has acquired the respect of staff at all levels as well as the inmate population and as someone who continuously demonstrates his dedication to the RIDOC and the State of Rhode Island with his leadership, professionalism, and sound decision making skills.

Deputy Lefebvre was promoted to the rank of Captain in 1998. In 2004, when the Department inaugurated a new program – the NEADS/Assistance Dogs for Deaf and Disabled Americans Prison Pup Partnership Program, he took control and has since molded it into what NEADS regularly refers to as its #1 program in the nation. The Deputy’s dedication to this program has involved many off-duty hours. NEADS so appreciated his work and involvement that it named a pup Nelly in his honor. Nelly recently graduated and has been paired with an autistic child whose mother has written a poignant letter about how much the dog has transformed her son’s and her family’s lives.

Deputy Lefebvre is a graduate of Bryant University.
