Cranston’s Kathy Lyons Promoted to Captain

Corrections Director Ashbel T. Wall II has announced the promotion of Cranston’s Kathleen A. Lyons, a 20-year veteran of the Department, to Captains/Records and ID, effective last Sunday. Captain Lyons began her career with the RIDOC as a Correctional Officer, working her way up the ranks to Lieutenant and now Captain in the Records and ID Unit. She oversees a small staff and handles new commitments sent from the courts to both men’s and women’s Intake facilities. She also oversees the Bail Unit and sentence calculations.

Ms. Lyons holds an Associate’s degree from the Community College of Rhode Island in law enforcement. A graduate of South Kingstown High School, she has also taken classes at the University of Rhode Island.

In one of her letters of recommendation for this promotion, a colleague wrote “All aspects of this job are tedious; it requires a detail oriented person who has total familiarity with all major criminal background investigative tools. Kathy has proven herself in her job. Her experience and attention to detail will serve her well.”
