Lt. Governor Roberts Warns Time Running Out for Businesses, Individuals to Apply for US SBA Disaster Assistance

Providence, RI - Thursday, May 20, 2010

Lt. Governor Roberts to be Joined by Mayors, SBA, FEMA Representatives and Cranston Business Owner to Stress Importance of Applying for US SBA Disaster Relief Loan

Lt. Gov. Elizabeth H. Roberts will hold a press conference at 11:00 am on Friday, May 21, 2010, at The Kala Corporation, 1655 Elmwood Avenue, Suite #44 in Cranston, to emphasize the deadline to apply for flood disaster assistance from the US SBA is Friday, May 28, 2010.

“It is extremely important that Rhode Island businesses and homeowners are aware that the deadline to apply for flood disaster assistance is only one week away,” said Lt. Governor Roberts. “There are still four Disaster Loan Outreach Centers throughout the state, with specialists on hand to assist homeowners, businesses and non profits complete their applications to the US SBA and answer questions about flood assistance,” explained the Lt. Governor.

U.S. Small Business Administration Disaster Loan Outreach Centers are located in West Warwick, North Providence, Westerly and Wakefield to answer any questions about the SBA’s low-interest disaster loan program for homeowners, renters, businesses and private non-profit organizations of all sizes. The federal loans are to repair or replace real estate and/or personal property damaged by the flooding.

Small business owner Kate Smith completed her loan application earlier this week and encourages others to do the same. “Don’t be afraid to apply. The SBA loan center helped me put it all together. Get the help you need and stay in business,” she urged. Kate Smith is co-owner of The Kala Corporation, a small business on Elmwood Avenue in Cranston that experienced significant flood loss.
