I-195 ramp to close overnight for Iway paving

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) will be closing Exit 20 (I-195 East) on I-95 South tonight during the overnight hours as part of a resurfacing operation on I-95.

The ramp for Exit 20 may be partially closed after 8 p.m. with the full closure expected to take place after 11 p.m. tonight, Tuesday, October 12, 2010. All lanes will be reopened by the morning commute tomorrow, Wednesday, October 13. Another closure is tentatively scheduled for Sunday, October 17, with the same schedule as Tuesday night’s closure.

RIDOT has been closing lanes on a regular basis since mid-summer for resurfacing of both I-95 and I-195 as part of the Iway project.

Traffic bound for I-195 East should follow a signed detour using Exit 18 (Thurbers Avenue). There, drivers can reverse direction and use Exit 19 from I-95 North to reach I-195 East.

Motorists should expect delays during this operation and may wish to consider alternate routes.

Motorists with questions can contact RIDOT’s Customer Service office at 401-222-2450 weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Additional information will be available on RIDOT’s website (www.dot.ri.gov) and its social media sites on Twitter, Facebook, MySpace and Blogger.
