Lt. Governor Elizabeth Roberts delivers 16th Million Meal on behalf of Meals on Wheels of RI

Providence, RI - October 14, 2010

Lt. Governor Elizabeth Roberts delivered the 16th million meal for Meals on Wheels of Rhode Island to Warwick resident William McCaughey this morning, Thursday, October 14th, at 9:30 am.

"I'm honored to take part in this vital service for Rhode Island's seniors," said Lt. Governor Roberts. "Meals on Wheels has been delivering meals in our community since 1969, and we all owe a great debt to their staff and team of volunteers for supporting our seniors most in need. It was an absolute pleasure to meet Mr. McCaughey and serve him the 16th million meal for Meals on Wheels this morning," said Roberts. Upon receiving his meal, Mr. McCaughey, 90, expressed his sincere gratitude for the service Meals on Wheels has offered him over the years.

For forty-one years, Meals on Wheels of Rhode Island has been dedicated to supporting Rhode Island seniors giving them independence and dignity. Meals on Wheels of Rhode Island, the only non-profit home-delivered meal program in the state, serves thousands of meals each day. Meals on Wheels of Rhode Island also has a congregate dining program, offers case management services in Providence and emergency response systems to those in need.
