Rhode Island Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin Announces Chase Bank Student Loan Deferment Program for Active Duty Men and Women

Today JP Morgan Chase Bank announced that it is restoring a voluntary program to defer student loan payments by all active duty service men and women. This means that if a serviceman or woman has student loan payments due to Chase Bank, they may defer all of their payments while they are on active duty. The deferment is not automatic though as Chase will only honor it if it gets a request from the servicemember.

“The men and women who are protecting this country through active duty military service deserve this benefit, and I hope that other banks will also commit to this voluntary program,” said Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin. “It is important that all servicemembers who qualify for this benefit contact Chase and request it. It is just as important that we all spread this information to all the military families we know so that they can continue to serve with a minimum of financial distractions.”

To obtain this deferment the servicemember should call Chase at 866-361-8020.
