Providence, RI – Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Administrator Sally Strachan announced today that the Department’s Middletown location on Valley Road will close at end of day this Friday, February 11, due to the completion of its lease. The DMV is committed to opening an alternate site on Aquidneck Island as soon as a suitable space becomes available.
The Department of Administration (DOA) has made every effort to secure a new Middletown site and continues to do so. DOA is currently engaged in a request-for-proposal (RFP) process to identify a new space and will evaluate proposals in a timely fashion.
In the interim, Aquidneck Island customers are directed to any of the other DMV offices across the state, especially Wakefield (address below), whose hours and days of service will expand to Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. All other DMV locations and branches remain on their current schedule.
All employees of the Middletown branch will be temporarily reassigned to either the Wakefield or Cranston locations to accommodate the needs of Aquidneck Island customers.
Any applicant with a road test scheduled at Middletown after February 11 will be provided testing services from the DMV’s main road testing site at Melrose Street in Providence (address below). The applicant’s existing appointment will be honored for the same day and time at the Melrose Street site, or the applicant may change the appointment through a phone number dedicated strictly to rescheduling Middletown road tests (listed below). All applicants currently scheduled for road tests at the Middletown branch will be contacted by phone and/or mail.
