RIDOT opening new alignment of Evans Avenue in Tiverton near Sakonnet River Bridge project

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) is scheduled to open a new segment of Evans Avenue in Tiverton on Wednesday, April 20, 2011. Traffic will be rerouted from the current alignment of this portion of Evans Avenue, which travels underneath Route 24.

The affected segment of road runs from Pierce Avenue to Central Avenue. This new road alignment is part of construction associated with the Sakonnet River Bridge project. RIDOT is building an embankment to support the new bridge in the original footprint of Evans Avenue.

RIDOT expects the disruption of traffic to be minimal, and there are no residences or businesses located on the segment of Evans Avenue that will be permanently closed.

The new Sakonnet River Bridge is expected to open to traffic by May 2012.

Motorists with questions can contact RIDOT’s Customer Service office at 401-222-2450 weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Additional information will be available on RIDOT’s website (www.dot.ri.gov) and its social media sites on Twitter, Facebook, MySpace and Blogger.
