Secretary of State Mollis to Recognize Rhode Islander with National Honor Wednesday

PROVIDENCE, RI – Secretary of State A. Ralph Mollis will recognize a Jamestown woman with his office’s highest honor for her leadership on a voter awareness campaign that has reached tens of thousands of Rhode Island workers since 2008.

Cindy Butler, SPHR, of Butler & Associates Human Resources Consulting, will receive the National Association of Secretaries of State’s 2010 Medallion Award at a joint meeting of the Human Resources Management Association of R.I. and the Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM) – R.I. Human Resource.

“Though her position in these organizations, Cindy encouraged companies large and small to host on-site voter registration drives, post links to voter registration forms on their intranets, display voter-registration posters and distribute broadcast email to their employees,” said Mollis.

In addition to targeting first-time voters, the “Voters in the Workplace” campaign gave voters who moved or changed their names a convenient way to update their records as required by state law.

Bank of America, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cardi’s, Cox Communications and Lifespan are among the companies that participated in the campaign.

WHERE & WHEN: Wed., May 18, at 8 a.m. at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Tiverton Room, Warwick.

HIGHLIGHTS: See Butler accept the award in front of her peers. Listen to Butler describe why businesses should encourage their employees to vote. Talk with Mollis about the award.
