Reminder: Portion of I-95 in South County to Temporarily Close During Early Morning Hours

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) is reminding motorists that a portion of I-95 in South County will be closed during the early morning hours on Thursday, August 4, for utility work. Northbound and Southbound lanes will be closed from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. between Exit 3 (Route 138) and Exit 5 (Route 102).

The highway is being closed so National Grid can run overhead utility lines across the road. The work was scheduled to take place last week, but was postponed. The following signed detour routes will be used:

I-95 Northbound Detour

• Take Exit 3B (Route 138) and follow Route 138 West (Main Street)

• Turn right onto Route 3 (Nooseneck Hill Road) and follow approximately 6.5 miles

• Turn left onto Route 102 North (Victory Highway) and take Exit 5 on-ramp to I-95 North

I-95 Southbound Detour

• Take Exit 5A (Route 102) and follow Route 102 South (Victory Highway)

• Turn right onto Route 3 (Nooseneck Hill Road) and follow approximately 6.5 miles

• Turn left onto Route 138 East (Main Street) and take Exit 3 on-ramp to I-95 South

Motorists with questions can contact RIDOT's Customer Service office at 401-222-2450 weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Additional information will be available on RIDOT's website (www.dot.ri.gov) and its social media sites on Twitter, Facebook, MySpace and Blogger.
